Jersey Golf Courses and Golf Clubs

Jersey's verdant landscapes, lush green fields and beautiful sea views are the perfect setting for a relaxing game of golf - and whether you're new to the game, or a consummate professional, you will be able to find a surprising number of world class courses upon which to play this noble sport. Its most famous courses can be found at the La Moye Golf Club and Royal Jersey Golf Club.

La Moye was established in 1902 in St. Brelade in the south west of the island and has since been featured many times in the PGA European Tour and the European Seniors Tour. Its stunning 6,664 yard 18 hole course boasts sand hills, pot bunkers, gorse and punishing rough, all with amazing views of St. Ouen's Bay and the other Channel Islands. Its impressive club house, driving range and pro shop ensures that a full day and a relaxing evening can quite easily be spent here. Green fees vary, from £25 for a member's guest (£16.75 for juniors) up to £72 on the weekend for visitors. Full details, including a course guide and dress code, can be found at La Moye Golf Club.

Equally impressive, found in Grouville on the east of the island, is Royal Jersey. Founded in 1878, this 6000 yard course is a challenging test for any golfer and the views - especially that from the 18th hole - may even be enough to distract you momentarily from sporting. Its classy Victorian clubhouse and numerous other facilities (including a range) are really world class. Its green fees range from £26 if you're a member's guest, £55 for a visitor (and only permitted entry to the course between 10am-12pm and 2pm-4pm on weekdays and after 2pm on weekends) and £26 for a junior. For full details, visit Royal Jersey Golf Club.

Les Mielles Golf and Country Club, situated in the conservation area in St. Ouen's Bay, is yet another 18 hole course that golfing enthusiasts will recognise from PGA tours. Its stunning landscape views, challenging back nine with many water hazards, full facilities (including driving range and technology centre), make for a very enjoyable experience for amateur and pro alike. Les Mielles also has competitive visitor prices, from £13.50 for a 9 hole game starting after half past six, up to a maximum of £37 before 4pm on weekends and bank holidays for the full 18 holes. Full details can be found at Les Mielles Golf and Country Club.

There are also a number of 9 hole courses available on the island for those who just don't have time for the full eighteen. The first of these is Wheatlands. Set in the heart of the countryside, amidst verdant forests, Wheatlands is situated on the original green lanes of St Peter, just ten minutes away from a truly beautiful stretch of beaches. It is a tough course, originally seen in the 1994 Ryder Cup and is well worth a round or two. It also has some wonderful facilities, including accommodation for those who want to immerse themselves in golf each and every day. Visitors pay the very fair price of £13.50 for nine or £19 to play eighteen holes, just a pound more than club members' guests. For further details, see Wheatlands Golf Club.

Les Ormes is found nearby Les Mielles and La Moye in St. Ouen's Bay, making this location a perfect one for people who want to play a lot of golf during their vacation. It is a nine hole course, nestled amongst trees and rolling grasslands and as with Wheatlands hosts its own accommodation facilities and clubhouse, alongside a football dome, tennis court, swimming pool and beauty facilities. The green fees are again very reasonable, ranging from £9 for an early morning or late evening round of nine holes up to £35 for peak morning rates at the weekend. Full details can be found at Les Ormes Golf Club.

All of these clubs also offer golf instruction for new players, or just people wanting to improve their game and are very welcome to visitors. As a note for potential tourists, especially during peak season, you are advised to call ahead and book your tee off times in advance so as to avoid disappointment. Though it is possible to find a game on the day, it can sometimes be difficult or even impossible. Also, as a service to the clubs, make sure to check out the course rules and dress codes (all of which can be found on the provided webpages). Most importantly, however, get out there and enjoy some golf!
